Paper Co-authored by Professor She Jin-Hua, School of Engineering, Receives Award at International Conference CLAWAR 2022

余 錦華教授

At the 25th the International Conference on Climbing and Walking Robots and the Support Technologies for Mobile Machines (CLAWAR2022) held in Ponta Delgada, Portugal, on September 13, 2022, “Human models simulating the physical conditions of the elderly individual and standing assistance method based on these models,” a paper co-authored by Professor She Jin-Hua of the School of Engineering together with researchers from other universities, was awarded the Local Organising Committee Award, Environmental Robotics Application for Sustainability, 1st Prize. This award is given for technical presentations that contribute to the sustainability of society and to the post-COVID era. The paper by Professor She and his colleagues was selected as the best out of the 60 papers published in the proceedings of this international conference.

CLAWAR 2022, organized by the CLAWAR Association, is a highly specialized international conference on support technologies for robots and mobility devices. The paper presented by Professor She and his colleagues proposes a method for measuring the physical conditions of weakened elderly individuals in a non-face-to-face manner and tasking a robotic system to design suitable standing assistance strategies for the each. The method is groundbreaking in that it enables robotic technicians to estimate the physical conditions of elderly individuals without the need to meet in person, as such individuals are placed at risk when coming into contact with others due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
