Research content
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are attracting attention as a cause of aging and various diseases. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are highly reactive forms of oxygen. It is believed that ROS damage lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids in living organisms, and that this damage is related to aging and disease. In our laboratory, we focus on antioxidants that scavenge ROS. Specific research topics include: 1) Analysis of coenzyme Q10 contained in the respiratory chain supercomplex of mitochondria, the main ROS-producing site in cells. 2) Functional analysis of proteins that bind to and solubilize fat-soluble coenzyme Q10. (3) Elucidation of the relationship between fertilization and antioxidants using medaka (Oryzias latipes). (4) Development of a method to increase the amount of coenzyme Q10 in neurons. Through this research, we hope to obtain clues to stop aging and inhibit the development of diseases.
