Research content
Semiconductor devices, which have supported the information technology, have been developed on silicon technology for long years, and the performance of integrated circuits have been improved mainly by scaling the transistor size. However, the scaling of transistor size reached the fundamental physical limit, and therefore, we are required to develop novel techniques for transistors. Two-dimensional (2D) materials are one of the expected technologies to overcome the limitations in the silicon technology, because of their atomically-thin and flat surfaces and interfaces. In our lab, we are developing the novel device technology based on this new kind of materials by stacking these 2D materials. The main target of our lab is the transistor technology for the next generation information processors, but other kinds of electronics devices such as memory devices, neuromorphic devices, quantum devices, and sensing devices are also in our research scope. We are also interested in basic physics of quantum Hall phenomena, localization or phase transitions in the 2D materials.
